For this piece, I was commissioned by a coworker to take on one of the largest projects I’ve done yet—a 36” x 48” scene of a 767 flying over the Alaskan mountains.

Since I’ve never flown over Alaska, I had to do some digging to gather accurate reference material. I combined photos of other mountains, Google Earth terrain data, common flight routes on FlightAware, and some of my own pictures of water to help me with the background. For the aircraft, I was aided by an online video of a 767 in a flight simulator so that I could get the proportions correct. I also used some of my own reference material to convert a UPS 767 to a FedEx paint scheme.

I had an excellent time painting this one! I’ve got other similar projects in the pipeline, and I’m looking forward to presenting them in the near future.
